Stefan Hagel, MD, M.Sc. graduated 2005 from Jena Medical School. He is specialist in iinternal medicine and infectious diseases and currently senior physician at the Center for Infectious Diseases and Infection Control at the Jena University Hospital. His special interest include research in hospital epidemiology, multi-drug resistant organisms and infection prevention and control. Since 2010 he is respsonsible for the ALERTS study at the Center for Sepsis Control and Care (CSCC) at the Jena University Hospital. The overarching objective of the prospective, quasi‐experimental study is to demonstrate the feasibility of a hospitalwide infection control programme to reduce the burden of HAIs and related sepsis of at least 20 %.
