PD Dr. Werner Albrich, MD, MSCR, is Attending Physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Hospital Epidemiology at the Kantonsspital St. Gallen, St. Gallen, Switzerland. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. After Medical School and Internship in Internal Medicine at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, he completed a Medicine Residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, and a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases together with a Master of Science in Clinical Research at Emory University, Atlanta, USA. He subsequently spent a research fellowship with Prof. Keith Klugman and Prof. Shabir Madhi at the Respiratory and Meningeal Pathogens Research Unit in Johannesburg, South Africa where he worked on diagnosis of pneumococcal infections.

His research interests include respiratory tract infections with particular focus on pneumococcal diseases, antibiotic resistance and biomarkers as tools to improve clinical diagnosis. He also has long-standing interests in the epidemiology of Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA in particular.
