Hilary Humphreys is Professor of Clinical Microbiology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and Consultant Microbiologist in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland. He has a long standing research interest in healthcare-associated infection (HCAI), including the epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), hospital hygiene and infection prevention and control measures in the operating theatre. He was the Chair of the 2014 HIS International Conference in Lyon, France in November 2014. He has published widely on HCAI and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Hospital Infection.
In Ireland he chairs the Department of Health's National Clinical Effectiveness Committee, which reviews, assesses and recommends for national endorsement, clinical guidelines. He is also a member of the Council of the Royal College of Physicians of ireland.
